Under the direction of Coach Scott Gourley, the LFC offers a
fun-filled, swim team experience. While we may have 7 Conference
championships over the last seven years, we’re most proud of our ability to
have a good time. From six-year-old novices to teenage state champs, our
team places first in fun. Over 200 kids can’t be wrong!
If you have any questions regarding Swim Team,
please contact Tara Bradbury, Sara Molenda, or Jennifer Johnston.(check
the LFC directory for numbers) or send an e-mail to lfcswimanddive@gmail.com.
Though the vast
majority of swimmers are welcome, our coaches aim to ensure safety during
practices and meets. To that end, any child who has never been on the team, and
any child under the age of nine who did not participate in two meets last year,
is required to be evaluated. The 2012 Assessments will be held May
29 at 6 pm.
Every child must meet the baseline criteria as follows:
*Swimmers six years and under (as of 6/1/12) must be able to swim one length of
the pool using the freestyle stroke with rhythmic breathing, and one length of
the pool using the backstroke without touching the bottom of the pool.
*Swimmers seven years and older (by 6/1/12) must be able to swim one length of
the pool using each of the following: freestyle (with rhythmic
breathing), backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly without touching the bottom
of the pool.
Swim assessment participants must have basic strokes and a level of swimming
endurance to support a practice approximately one hour in length.
Swimmers trying to achieve legal strokes while developing endurance should
register for the Stroke Work Class to help solidify skills necessary to
participate on the team.
Parents will be notified via email with the assessment results for their
child. Swim team practice for newly assessed kids who met the criteria
will begin on June 4th. Team fees must be paid by May 1st.
Regular practices
will begin on June 4. Ages 11 and up practice from 8-9:20 am,
Monday-Thursday. Ages 10 and under practice from 9:20-10:20, Monday through
Thursday. A 5-6pm practice accommodates both groups on Mondays, Tuesdays
and Wednesdays. Fun Fridays are for all ages with a light practice,
games, and doughnuts from 9-10:15am.
Eventually, the LFC calendar will have daily practice times and deviations from
the regular schedule.
Though not
required for participation, team swimsuits and caps are available for purchase
through Urban Tri Gear. The team suit for this year is the TYR Aurora in blue. The girls’ suit is $46.25 and the boys’ jammer
is $29.50 if ordered by April 23rd.
A team swimsuit fitting and order night will be scheduled in late April.
If you are not sure you want to purchase a suit at this time, you can size your
swimmer/diver and either order one over the phone or purchase one at Urban Tri
Gear at a later time. It is best to order early to ensure your child’s size is
available.
LFC will provide each swimmer with one LFC latex swim cap. You also have the
option of purchasing silicone caps imprinted with your swimmer’s name through
Urban Tri Gear. Two silicone caps (available only in pairs) with your child’s
name is $24.
Urban Tri Gear is located at 840 E Ogden Ave in Westmont, 630-230-9386. They
can offer a 10% discount on swim gear (bags, goggles, etc.) at the store if you
mention that you are a member of LFC.
All meets begin at 6:00pm unless otherwise posted. Swimmers must arrive one hour prior to start time for check-in and warm-up. Events are also posted at this time.
Especially Important:Should your child become ill and have to skip a swim meet, please contact Kelly Bartosz at lfcswimanddive@gmail.com immediately. You may also leave them a message at the front desk.
Though there is plenty of help to ensure that younger swimmers do not miss their events, it’s important that parents make sure children are aware of their events and stay seated in designated areas.

As members of the Inter-Suburban Swim Conference, we will participate in the Conference Championship Meet on 7/21/12 at Five Seasons. Because entries are limited, swimmers qualify for the team based on times from the regular season. You’ll be asked to complete a Conference Release form early in the season informing the coaches of your child’s availability for this event.
If your child is chosen, he or she will be responsible for attending morning and evening practices the week prior to the meet.
For those swimmers who would like to perfect their strokes, the club is offering a new class called “Stroke Work”. Please see the registration materials for complete description.
The swim team coaches will be offering a stroke clinic on Saturday mornings this summer. More details to follow in a couple weeks.
To schedule a private swim lesson, please see one of the swim instructors or coaches and reserve a time with them. If you would like assistance with this process, please see the front desk.
